About
I believe SEL is the foundation everything else gets built on.
I'm Kristoffer Kohl, the Social-Emotional Learning Coach at Canyon View Elementary. I started in public schools as a classroom teacher and grew into SEL because I kept seeing the same truth: when kids feel safe, connected, and capable, the rest of school becomes possible.
My work today spans three rooms: small groups with kids learning to name and navigate big feelings, coaching cycles with teachers refining their classroom climate, and partnership work with families so the language of SEL travels home.
Outside of school, I'm usually outside — hiking, chasing my kids, or quietly rooting for public education.
What I value
Kids first, always
Every decision starts with the kid in front of me — their story, strengths, and what they need to feel safe and seen.
Regulation before rigor
A dysregulated brain can't learn. We build the conditions for calm, then we build the academics.
Coach the adults
Sustainable change for kids comes through the grown-ups around them. I coach with curiosity, not compliance.
Joy is non-negotiable
Schools should be places kids and adults actually want to be. Joy is a strategy, not a reward.
